Arne Slot’s history is checked by Jürgen Klopp, while the coach discusses their covert visit to Liverpool.
The first manager of Arne Slot, Jürgen Klopp, met with him last week. The Liverpool manager has been screening his replacement on his own.
Arne Slot has been the subject of a rigorous screening process by Jürgen Klopp, with a coach who has collaborated closely with the Dutchman paying a covert visit to Liverpool. Last week, Klopp had a thought-provoking conversation with Henk de Jong, Slot’s first manager, who was asked to view Liverpool’s facilities.
Ten years ago, during his stay at the club, De Jong appointed Slot as his deputy. De Jong currently manages Dutch second division side Cambuur. Slot then assumed total command in 2016.
De Jong spoke with Klopp and his coaching staff following Liverpool’s U21 team’s 2-0 loss to Arsenal, and he gave them important details about Slot.
“It was excellent. An incredibly memorable visit. They had a few days free, but everyone simply showed up,” De Jong stated, as reported by the Mirror. “I also saw Pep Lijnders. Everyone, the coach for U21. I talked to Jurrien Timber, who had a tremendous performance against Arsenal, after seeing the match.
“They found it appealing that Arne Slot began his career as my assistant. Sipke Hulshoff, who was previously part of my crew, is accompanying Arne. I filled them in on everything.
“Everyone at Liverpool is tremendously excited about Arne’s impending success. Although Pep Lijnders is leaving, I got the impression that Liverpool fans all wanted him to return at some point.
They were all quite complimentary of him, and I believe he has established a solid reputation for himself. Jürgen is incredibly friendly and warm. I’ve heard you’re the only football manager in the world funnier than me,’ he said to me. Why are we not together already?
In the meantime,De Jong visited Erik ten Hag to round out his tour, saying, “I made a little’switch’ to Manchester United and went to have dinner with Erik and enjoyed a fantastic football evening with him.”
Liverpool has clearly done its research on Slot and appears to be going above and above, according to Liverpool.com. It won’t hurt to learn more about his personality before his anticipated arrival.
The information that Klopp also spoke with De Jong is intriguing. It is encouraging to hear that the departing boss thinks well of Slot, even though it doesn’t appear like he had much of an impact on his successor.
